Positive Intelligence – Mental Fitness

Positive Intelligence is a measure of your mental fitness – the strength of your positive mental brain (Right brain – Sage) versus the negative mental brain (Left brain – Saboteur). The concept is the basis of Shirzad Chamine’s New York Times bestselling book, Positive Intelligence, and Stanford lectures and is a synthesis of the latest breakthroughs in neuroscience, cognitive and positive psychology, and performance science.

Left Brain (Saboteur) – Right Brain (Sage)

The key is to weaken your internal Saboteurs who generate negativity and cause stress, anxiety, self-doubt, frustration, regret, shame, guilt, and unhappiness. Some of the Saboteurs include:

  • The Judge
  • Controller
  • Hyper-Rational
  • Hyper-Achiever
  • Pleaser
  • Hyper-Vigilant
  • Avoider
  • Victim
  • Stickler
  • Restless

You intercept your Saboteurs and summon your “Sage” who lives in an entirely different region of your brain and handles challenges in ways that produce positive emotions like curiosity, empathy, creativity, calm, and clear-headed laser-focused action.

The bottom line is that you perform better while working less hard – similar to athletes “in the zone.”

In my coaching, we identify your main Saboteurs and through practice, develop ways to intercept the Saboteurs, then shift negative emotions to the “sage mode.” We go through the “PQ Coaching Process” by finding the gift in a negative emotion, then proceed through a sage perspective to include empathize, explore, innovate, navigate and activate.
